New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education’s Class XII re-evaluation portal went live after repeated delays, but several students reported login failures, authentication errors and session expirations while trying to access scanned answer sheets and complete the review process. The complaints have renewed concerns over CBSE’s digital systems at a time when the board is already under scrutiny over its On-Screen Marking system.

Portal Opens After Multiple Delays

The re-evaluation portal was initially scheduled to open on May 29, but the launch was later postponed to June 1 and then to June 2. In the early hours of Tuesday, CBSE announced through its official social media channels that students could begin applying for re-evaluation and also released a tutorial explaining the process.

The portal’s reopening was being closely followed by students and parents because of the large number of requests for answer-sheet access this year. More than 98,000 Class XII students sought scanned copies of their answer books, resulting in requests covering over four lakh answer sheets.

The surge came amid debate and concerns over the implementation of the On-Screen Marking system, which has already drawn attention to CBSE’s evaluation and review mechanisms.

Students Report Authentication Failures

Soon after the portal became active, students began reporting technical problems. Many said they were unable to log in despite entering correct credentials, while others faced authentication failures, session expirations and repeated verification errors.

Several students shared screenshots and details of the problems on social media. Some said the system repeatedly displayed failed verification messages despite correct login details and captcha entries. Others said requests expired during the login process, preventing them from completing applications.

Legal advocate Vineet Jindal said he had received multiple complaints from students who were facing difficulty accessing answer sheets and completing the re-evaluation process. He urged authorities to ensure that students are not disadvantaged because of technical failures beyond their control.

Digital Systems Face Fresh Scrutiny

The complaints have intensified concerns over the reliability of CBSE’s technology infrastructure, especially because the re-evaluation process can affect marks, admissions and future academic opportunities.

CBSE has been responding to queries through its official social media channels and assisting affected students. The board has maintained that efforts are being made to ensure smooth functioning of the portal and resolve reported technical issues.

The matter has also drawn the attention of the Education Ministry, which recently sought assistance from technical experts at the Indian Institutes of Technology. Specialists from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur have reportedly been involved in identifying glitches related to the On-Screen Marking system and supporting efforts to strengthen the re-evaluation process.

A researcher at Future Crime Research Foundation noted that large educational platforms often face heavy traffic during result and re-evaluation periods. The researcher said institutions must test system resilience, strengthen authentication mechanisms and maintain adequate technical support to prevent disruptions during crucial academic processes.

Students and parents are now watching the portal’s performance closely as CBSE works to address the glitches and restore confidence in its digital examination ecosystem.
