The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered alleged corruption and illegal extortion during the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Constable (GD) Recruitment 2024 process at the force’s 40th Battalion camp in Ranchi. Investigators claimed candidates were allegedly promised clearance in medical examinations in exchange for money, exposing suspected irregularities in the recruitment system.
CBI Began Probe After Complaint
According to reports, the CBI initiated its investigation in January following complaints related to irregularities in the ITBP constable recruitment process. The probe reportedly gathered momentum after an internal Court of Inquiry conducted by the ITBP flagged suspected misconduct and corruption during the recruitment exercise.
Investigators alleged that candidates appearing for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Review Medical Examination (RME) were approached with promises of being declared fit in return for large sums of money. Authorities are now examining whether the alleged racket involved officials, intermediaries, and private individuals operating together.

Officials and Personnel Under Scanner
Preliminary findings reportedly identified the alleged role of several personnel linked to the recruitment process, including officials posted at the ITBP’s Patna headquarters and the 40th Battalion in Ranchi. Investigators are also probing the involvement of unidentified personnel from other Central Armed Police Forces and private intermediaries.
The probe further alleged that confidential candidate information was improperly shared during the recruitment process. Investigators also identified suspicious financial transactions, including an alleged ₹50,000 transfer connected to one of the accused personnel.
Recruitment Data and Communication Records Examined
According to the investigation, specific mobile numbers and communication channels were allegedly used to coordinate the illegal activities. The CBI is examining digital evidence, financial records, and recruitment documents to determine the scale of the alleged extortion network.
Officials said the case is being investigated under provisions related to corruption and criminal conspiracy. A CBI officer of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) rank is reportedly supervising the investigation.
Recruitment Scams Continue to Raise Concerns
The case has once again highlighted concerns over corruption and irregularities in recruitment processes involving competitive examinations and security forces. In recent years, investigative agencies have uncovered multiple exam and recruitment-related fraud cases involving leaked candidate data, bribery allegations, impersonation, and digital cheating networks.
Authorities are expected to continue examining the financial trail, recruitment procedures, and possible involvement of additional individuals connected to the alleged racket.
