Bharatpol: CBI Launches Portal for States and UTs to Submit Interpol Information Requests

In a landmark move to enhance criminal tracking and expedite justice, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unveiled Bharatpol, a state-of-the-art portal that connects law enforcement agencies across India with Interpol.

The platform promises to revolutionize how states and Union Territories share information on fugitives and criminals, both within the country and abroad.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will officially launch Bharatpol at Bharat Mandapam on Tuesday. This cutting-edge initiative addresses long-standing challenges in accessing and sharing criminal records, enabling police forces and investigative agencies to collaborate seamlessly.

From Delays to Instant Access
Previously, obtaining information from Interpol was a time-consuming process. Agencies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or the Central Economic Offences Bureau (CEIB) had to route their requests through the CBI, relying on outdated methods like faxes or emails. These delays often hampered investigations and allowed criminals to exploit loopholes.

Bharatpol changes the game by offering a one-click solution for accessing criminal records and alerting Interpol. Authorized officers from any state can now upload details, access global databases, and initiate alerts in real-time.

“Bharatpol directly connects all states and investigative agencies with the CBI,” a senior official explained. “Officers can now instantly access complete criminal records or alert Interpol without procedural delays.”

Faster Extraditions, Swift Justice
The portal also simplifies the extradition process for fugitives hiding abroad. With Bharatpol, all necessary documents can be securely sent to foreign agencies in a single step, expediting requests for repatriation.

This is expected to significantly enhance India’s efforts to bring back criminals and terrorists evading justice.

A Proven Track Record
India’s collaboration with Interpol has already yielded impressive results. In 2024 alone, 26 fugitives were extradited to India, contributing to a total of 100 successful extraditions since 2021. Officials believe Bharatpol will further accelerate this momentum, making it increasingly difficult for criminals to find safe havens.

A Step Towards Safer India
Bharatpol represents a giant leap forward in leveraging technology to combat crime. By streamlining communication and enhancing coordination between states, agencies, and Interpol, the portal is set to make justice more accessible and efficient.

As India continues its crackdown on fugitives and cross-border criminals, Bharatpol stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to ensuring no criminal can escape the long arm of the law.
