Bahraich: Security agencies have intensified their investigation after the exposure of an organized network involved in illegally facilitating the movement of people across the India-Nepal border. Initial interrogation has revealed that the gang used to collect details about travelers, including their identity, purpose of travel, and document status, before deciding the amount to be charged for illegal border crossing. The higher the perceived risk, the more money the accused demanded.
According to investigating agencies, the network had been active in the India-Nepal border region for a long time and was involved in helping people cross the border through unauthorized routes. The accused first gathered complete information about their clients and then negotiated the deal depending on the circumstances. Agencies are now investigating other members linked to the module, their contacts, and financial transactions.
The role of three local accused arrested in the case has also come to light. Among them, Innova driver Rahul Kumar, a resident of Kevalpur village in the Rupaidiha area, has been identified. His associates Suresh Kumar Pathak and Dilip are also residents of the same region. The three accused are being questioned to trace other members of the network and uncover their connections.
Possibility of Large-Scale Border Crossings Over Five Years
The investigation has indicated that the network had been operating for several years. Through strong local contacts, the gang established links with travelers seeking illegal border crossings. Agencies are trying to determine how many people were transported across the border illegally and whether any of them were involved in suspicious activities.
Security agencies are also examining whether the network was being used for human trafficking, illegal immigration, or other criminal activities. As the investigation progresses, more arrests are expected in the coming days.
Probe Into Properties Created Through Suspected Earnings
During the investigation, it was found that the arrested accused had allegedly acquired properties, including land and houses, through various means over the past few years. Police are now examining their sources of income, bank account transactions, and details of property purchases.
If evidence of disproportionate assets or suspicious financial dealings is found, additional legal action may be initiated against the accused. Agencies are also investigating where the money generated through this illegal operation was invested or transferred.
Preparation to Take Punjab-Linked Accused on Transit Remand
The search for wanted accused Vikramjit Singh is also underway. According to investigating agencies, Punjab Police had been informed about the case. Following this, a team from Punjab Police reached Bahraich and completed the required legal procedures. After completion of transit remand formalities, the accused will be taken to Punjab.
Police officials said that strict surveillance is being maintained on such networks operating in the border region. Considering the sensitive nature of the India-Nepal border, security agencies are collecting information about local contacts and suspicious activities.
Experts believe that illegal cross-border movement networks often operate with the help of local contacts, transport facilities, and forged documents. In such cases, merely arresting individuals is not enough; it is necessary to identify the financial structure of the network, its associates, and those providing support or protection. In the Bahraich case, agencies are focusing on dismantling the entire module.
