CHENNAI — The Madras High Court has rolled out a dedicated digital dashboard designed to track unclaimed compensation deposits linked to Motor Accident Claims Petitions and Labour Court proceedings across Tamil Nadu. Developed in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre in Madras, the platform consolidates scattered court registries into a single electronic monitoring system. The project was formally sanctioned by the High Court Computer Committee during its meeting on September 28, 2026, and has now gone live to trace entitled recipients or their legal heirs, address administrative bottlenecks, and accelerate disbursements that have long remained tied up in judicial accounts.

Subordinate Courts Instructed to Maintain Digital Ledger

Following the deployment of the portal, the Madras High Court Registry issued a circular on October 6 directing all Principal District Judges across the state to ensure that subordinate judicial officers regularly feed and update their compensation data. The directive applies to matters filed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923, as well as pending cases before Labour Courts.

Court administrators noted that the absence of a unified database historically forced authorities to rely on decentralized physical ledgers across individual judicial divisions. By standardizing these records within an integrated network, judicial officers can monitor undistributed funds systematically, identify overdue settlements, and establish whether formal proceedings are required to verify claimant identities or process final payouts.

Inter-Agency Drive to Locate Unreachable Beneficiaries

A primary focus of the digital registry is tracking beneficiaries who have failed to receive adjudicated compensation due to outdated residential addresses, untraced legal heirs following a claimant’s death, or a general lack of awareness regarding deposited awards. For many motor accident victims and bereaved working-class households, these delayed awards represent a vital financial lifeline.

To bridge this gap, court authorities plan to use dashboard data to coordinate directly with District Legal Services Authorities, revenue officials, local police personnel, and paralegal volunteers. Field teams will be deployed to trace eligible families, assist them in completing mandatory procedural verifications, and ensure awarded compensation is delivered directly to the rightful individuals rather than remaining parked in court coffers indefinitely.

Oversight Enhanced to Safeguard Deposited Awards

The digital mechanism will also serve as an administrative audit system to oversee compliance with judicial orders governing financial relief. The platform enables supervisory panels to confirm whether subordinate tribunals have implemented mandated protections, including the conversion of undistributed awards into fixed deposits to shield principal amounts while verification drives proceed.

Court officials emphasized that the ultimate success of the program depends on disciplined compliance at the trial court level. Rigorous data entry, routine information updates, and timely inter-agency cooperation will determine whether the electronic platform achieves its objective of delivering long-pending relief to vulnerable litigants across the state.
