Delhi Police have arrested two men in connection with an online investment fraud in which a victim lost ₹22.50 lakh.

How Was the Victim Defrauded?

The complainant was allegedly persuaded to invest money through an online platform that promised financial returns. Police said the victim transferred funds believing the investment opportunity was genuine, but subsequently suffered losses amounting to ₹22.50 lakh.

A case was registered on April 29, following which investigators began examining the financial transactions associated with the alleged fraud. The investigation focused on tracing the movement of money through bank accounts and identifying individuals linked to the transactions.

How Did Police Trace the Suspects?

During the investigation, police identified a transfer of ₹1 lakh from the suspected fraud proceeds into a bank account belonging to Raj Kumar, 34. The transaction provided investigators with a financial link to one of the accused.

Police traced Raj Kumar to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and arrested him on October 17. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed that he had opened the bank account at the request of his brother-in-law, Vipin Kumar, in exchange for ₹15,000.

What Was the Second Accused’s Role?

Following Raj Kumar’s arrest, investigators identified Vipin Kumar, 29, as another suspect in the case. Police arrested him from Tappal in Uttar Pradesh on October 18.

According to police, Vipin Kumar was involved in procuring bank accounts and supplying them to other individuals in exchange for payments and commissions. Investigators are examining his alleged role in facilitating financial transactions connected with the online investment fraud. Police recovered four mobile phones from the two arrested men during the investigation.

What Does the Investigation Reveal?

The arrests have brought attention to the alleged use of third-party bank accounts in transferring money obtained through fraudulent investment schemes. The ₹1 lakh transaction traced to Raj Kumar’s account represents part of the suspected proceeds, rather than the entire ₹22.50 lakh reportedly lost by the complainant.

The420 Insight: The case highlights the importance of tracing financial transactions in online investment fraud investigations. It also illustrates how bank accounts allegedly supplied for commissions can become part of suspected fraud networks. The arrests establish investigative progress, while the allegations against the accused remain subject to legal proceedings.
