Moradabad. National middle-distance runner Kaushal Kumar of Moradabad has been suspended after failing a doping test, placing him under action by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). Kaushal’s name was included among 66 athletes listed by NADA on September 8 in connection with doping violations. He has allegedly been found to have taken a prohibited substance intended to raise blood pressure before a competition. His sample was collected during the national athletics competition held in Ludhiana on June 13, and he was suspended after testing allegedly confirmed the presence of a prohibited substance. NADA may now decide on further sanctions following the completion of the prescribed proceedings.
Kaushal Kumar is a resident of the Karula area of Moradabad and has represented Uttar Pradesh in national-level competitions. The national athletics competition was held in Ludhiana on June 13 this year. Kaushal participated in the 400-metre race and finished sixth. Following the race, NADA officials collected doping samples from athletes participating in the competition.

The sample was subsequently examined and the report indicated the presence of a prohibited substance in Kaushal’s sample. NADA then published a list of 66 athletes linked to doping-rule violations on its website on September 8. Kaushal Kumar was among those named in the list. Proceedings against him have been initiated under anti-doping regulations.
Kaushal Kumar said that he had been unwell before participating in the Ludhiana competition and was taking medication at the time. He said his doping sample was collected by NADA during the competition and that he subsequently failed the test. He has submitted his response to the letter issued by NADA. The next decision in the matter will be taken through the agency’s prescribed process.
Strong Record in Several National Competitions
Kaushal Kumar has participated in four national-level competitions so far this year. He finished second in athletics competitions held in Odisha and Ludhiana. He also participated in a national-level competition in Delhi. In Chandigarh, he won a gold medal in the 400-metre relay event. Representing Uttar Pradesh, he also won a gold medal in the 400-metre race at a competition in Delhi.
Kaushal also performed strongly in inter-collegiate competitions last year. He won gold medals in the 200-metre event and the 4×400-metre relay, while securing a silver medal in the 400-metre event. His name appearing in the doping case now puts his participation and future competitive record under the scope of the anti-doping proceedings.
According to the secretary of the District Athletics Association, Kaushal Kumar was participating in the Ludhiana competition on June 13 when NADA collected his sample. The sample was subsequently reported positive, following which his name was included in NADA’s list.
The regional sports officer said athletes’ bags are regularly checked at the stadium premises and players are continuously advised against the use of prohibited substances. The officer said consumption of banned substances is against sporting regulations and that action is taken against athletes in such cases in accordance with NADA rules.
