A railway Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) has allegedly been cheated of ₹52.29 lakh on the promise of getting his home loan waived in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Abhimanyu Kumar, a railway TTE and resident of Shivpur Sahabajganj in the Shahpur area. The complainant has alleged that a woman and her associates cited a purported Reserve Bank of India (RBI) scheme to gain his confidence and subsequently arranged loans totalling ₹52.29 lakh from five different banks in his name.

According to the complaint, Abhimanyu was introduced to Garima Singh through Dhruv Narayan Singh, a railway station superintendent who was reportedly carrying a home loan of around ₹57 lakh. Dhruv allegedly told Abhimanyu that his daughter Garima could help get home loans waived under an RBI scheme. Believing that such a facility was available, Abhimanyu contacted Garima in August 2025.

Garima allegedly told him that certain OTPs would be received on his mobile phone during the loan-waiver process. She also allegedly informed him that a man identified as Vishal Yadav would call and ask for the OTPs. Acting on her instructions, Abhimanyu allegedly shared the OTPs and signed several documents. The complainant later discovered that loans totalling ₹52.29 lakh had been sanctioned in his name by five banks.

The complaint further alleges that Abhimanyu was unaware that fresh loans were being taken in his name. He reportedly did not even visit the bank branches for obtaining loans from two of the five banks. Investigators are now examining how the loan applications were prepared, how the documents were used and how the loans were processed and approved at the banking level.

According to Abhimanyu, Garima initially paid the EMIs on the loans for around 10 months. This allegedly prevented him from immediately suspecting a major irregularity. The payments were later stopped, leaving him facing the financial liability associated with the loans. In the first week of August, Abhimanyu reportedly visited Garima’s residence to seek clarification and demand a resolution.

He allegedly found several other people at the house who had also come to demand the return of their money. This reportedly raised suspicions that the alleged financial dealings involved multiple victims. During the confrontation, Garima allegedly threatened to approach the police. Abhimanyu subsequently contacted the police and submitted a complaint alleging that he had been cheated of ₹52.29 lakh.

Police have also found that Garima is allegedly named in several earlier cases involving loan-related fraud and financial irregularities. The latest case is reportedly the sixth FIR linked to the alleged network. Investigators are examining the earlier complaints to determine whether a similar method was used in each case, particularly involving promises of loan waivers and the arrangement of bank loans in victims’ names.

A case involving veterinary doctor Dr Paramatma is also part of the wider investigation. Police had registered an FIR against Garima and others in connection with that matter. Dr Paramatma had reportedly filed a complaint against Garima at the AIIMS police station on August 5. In addition, three other people have allegedly lodged similar complaints at the AIIMS and Sahjanwa police stations.

Investigators are now examining the alleged network’s operating pattern, including how victims were persuaded to participate in loan procedures, how their identity documents and OTPs were obtained and where the loan proceeds were ultimately transferred. Bank records, loan documents, transaction details and other digital evidence are expected to play an important role in establishing the flow of money.

Police are also investigating the role of other people who may have assisted in the alleged fraud. The focus will be on determining whether Garima and Vishal Yadav were acting alone or as part of a larger group. Investigators may question bank officials, complainants and other individuals connected with the loan applications to establish how the transactions were executed.

Gorakhpur police said the case is being investigated seriously. The accused may be taken on remand for questioning, while police teams are conducting searches to trace other suspects allegedly connected with the case. Further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation. The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
