A sinister convergence of artificial intelligence abuse, digital impersonation, and sextortion has claimed the life of a 12-year-old student in the Bihar capital, exposing the extreme vulnerabilities faced by minors navigating unmonitored digital channels.
The tragedy, which unfolded in the Punaichak area under Shastri Nagar jurisdiction, resulted in the arrest of a suspect from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. The law enforcement probe revealed an organized syndicate using AI-generated deepfake imagery to blackmail young victims into financial extortion.
Artificial Intelligence Abuse and Digital Impersonation
The victim, Ayush Singh, a Class 7 student and son of a local tailor, was found dead inside his family’s rented residence on July 11. Initial investigations into the child’s smartphone records unlocked a trail of calculated psychological coercion orchestrated by an online perpetrator who used a false profile picture depicting a young woman.
Digital forensic analysis conducted by Patna Police revealed that the profile was operated by Sunil Sau, a resident of Hazaribagh. Investigators discovered that the accused utilized generative artificial intelligence software to edit the minor’s photographs into explicit nude deepfakes. Threatening to circulate the fabricated media among his school peers and social contacts, the perpetrator systematically coerced the child into making multiple electronic fund transfers.
The frightened victim surrendered his personal savings, making small digital transfers totaling ₹2,500 across two separate transactions. However, as the extortion demands escalated and threats intensified while the boy was alone at home, the psychological distress culminated in his untimely death.
Law Enforcement Action and Syndicate Connections
Following an intensive multi-state tracking operation, Patna Police apprehended the primary suspect in Hazaribagh on August 14 before bringing him to the state capital on transit remand. Interrogation of the accused uncovered digital transaction records and bank accounts linked to an organized cyber fraud ring operating across state borders.
Law enforcement officers seized incriminating evidence from the suspect’s mobile devices, including deepfake generation tools, extortion logs, and transaction records indicating substantial financial turnover. Investigators also unearthed financial documentation tied to a recent land purchase valued at ₹50 Lakh, suspecting the acquisition was funded through proceeds of systemic digital extortion schemes.
While police authorities maintain the case as a cyber-fraud-induced suicide, the victim’s family has raised allegations of physical harm, citing injury marks on the child’s body and suspicious physical circumstances at the crime scene. The senior police administration has assured a comprehensive investigation encompassing forensic pathology reports and digital evidence trails.
