New Delhi: Concluding the panel discussions on the second day of the FutureCrime Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, senior law enforcement officials, corporate security leaders, and academic scholars assembled for Session 7. Titled “Future Policing, Digital Crime, Forensics & Technology Law: Shaping the Next Generation of Criminal Justice,” the session examined how technology supply chain vulnerabilities, borderless digital crimes, and statutory updates under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are reshaping criminal justice mechanisms.
Operational Friction, Supply Chain Risks, and Legislative Frameworks
Moderated by CA (Dr.) Satish Kumar Gupta, Head of Internal Audit & Assurance at Berar Finance, the panel explored the ongoing operational tug-of-war between cyber defenders and adversaries across automated systems.
The transition from localized digital crime to automated, supply-chain-driven threat vectors represents a critical challenge for modern law enforcement. As threat actors leverage generative AI to automate payload generation and identify zero-day vulnerabilities, public safety frameworks must adapt by securing data pipelines and upgrading statutory investigation procedures.
Perspectives Across AI Security, Incident Response, and Criminal Justice
Prof. Arunabha Mukhopadhyay from IIM Lucknow analyzed the architectural vulnerabilities surrounding generative AI platforms, highlighting that advanced models like Gemini have been observed identifying software bugs and crafting functional attack payloads. He stressed the urgent operational need to protect artificial intelligence architectures from data poisoning and adversarial prompt injection techniques designed to override safety controls. Prof. Mukhopadhyay emphasized that unverified AI outputs cannot serve as substantive evidence in legal proceedings, pointing out that corrupting a single upstream data source within a multi-tier technology supply chain can compromise an entire enterprise system.
Navaneethan M, Chairman and CEO at CXO Cywayz, detailed the operational logistics of managing high-volume cyber incident response in a borderless digital ecosystem. He explained that a primary bottleneck in modern policing stems from the gap between high-speed incident detection and lagging resolution times, which creates severe backlogs during massive data ingestion. Navaneethan also identified talent attrition across public and private cybersecurity sectors as a major institutional hurdle, reiterating that a single unvetted vendor or corrupted software component undermines the overall security posture of the entire technology ecosystem.
Raj Kumar Mishra, Additional SP, Special Task Force (STF), UP Police, provided an active law enforcement perspective on the evolution of digital crime, noting that cyber threats have escalated from low-level online frauds to targeted attacks against critical national infrastructure. He explained that new legislative frameworks—specifically the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)—were enacted to resolve procedural bottlenecks and provide statutory backing for modern digital evidence gathering. Describing a continuous arms race between defenders and cybercriminals, Mishra asserted that police units require persistent technological upgrades and specialized training to effectively deploy digital tools under updated statutory mandates.
