In a targeted operation against employment rackets, the Noida Police and Sector-20 Cyber Crime Unit have dismantled a fraudulent job call center operating out of the Atta Market and Sector-27 areas. The syndicate, which was largely operated by a group of women, allegedly defrauded more than 250 unemployed youth over the past 18 months by promising placements at high-profile corporate firms. Police arrested six individuals, including the alleged ringleaders, and seized extensive physical and digital evidence detailing the racket’s operations.
Modus Operandi: Pamphlet Campaigns, Justdial Listings, and Bogus Fees
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shweta Singh alias Priya, Neeju Yadav, Kirti Singh alias Meera, Pooja, Rupesh Kumar, and Aamir Rana. According to law enforcement officials, the group deployed a combination of online listings and physical outreach to snare job seekers. They posted fake employment advertisements on online business directories like Justdial and distributed promotional pamphlets across high-footfall locations, including Noida Metro stations and local markets.
When prospective candidates responded to the advertisements, they were directed to an office established in Sector-27, Noida. There, gang members conducted fake interviews and promised guaranteed placements in reputed companies. Under the guise of processing their employment, the accused coerced applicants into paying non-refundable fees under multiple heads, including registration, interview charges, file processing, uniforms, and mandatory medical examinations. Once the payments were collected, the operators cut off communications without securing any jobs for the victims. During the raid, officers seized three mobile phones, 11 fee ledgers, four receipt books, 22 promotional pamphlets, and 20 filled job application forms. Investigators are currently analyzing bank account statements linked to the accused to trace the total financial proceeds and identify any additional accomplices or multi-city linkages.
Parallel Cyber Fraud Cases Involving Trading Schemes and Email Manipulation
Alongside the job call center raid, Noida Police registered two separate high-value cybercrime cases highlighting the diversity of digital financial fraud operating in the region. In the first instance, a 65-year-old retired resident of Gem Orchid Society in Sector-76 was defrauded of ₹59 lakh after cyber criminals lured him with promises of guaranteed, high-margin returns through a fake online stock trading application before freezing his account and absconding with the capital.
In the second case, an authorized representative of a pharmaceutical company based in Sector-136 filed a complaint after fraudsters intercepted corporate communications using a fake email account. The perpetrators manipulated recipient banking credentials and diverted a vendor payment of ₹20.91 lakh into a fraud account. An FIR has been registered at the Sector-56 Cyber Police Station, with investigators currently examining email logs and financial transaction trails.
Expert Advisory on Employment and Digital Frauds
Analyzing the spike in employment and corporate cyber fraud, renowned cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh emphasized that legitimate employers and recruitment agencies never charge job applicants fees for interviews, training, or uniforms. He urged job seekers to exercise extreme caution when responding to unsolicited job offers or listings found on unverified portals.
For investment schemes, Prof. Singh advised citizens to trade exclusively through platforms authorized by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). To counter Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks, he recommended that financial teams independently verify any requested changes to bank account details via direct phone or video calls with established vendor contacts prior to initiating electronic transfers.
