Uttar Pradesh Police has launched a seven-day statewide cybercrime enforcement campaign, “Operation Cy Vajra”, as part of a broader effort to intensify action against cyber criminals, strengthen cyber policing and improve assistance for victims of online financial fraud. The initiative follows a statewide review of cybercrime control measures, during which police reported freezing ₹530 crore linked to cyber fraud and blocking thousands of suspicious mobile numbers and devices used in cyber offences.

Statewide cybercrime drive begins

Operation Cy Vajra has been launched across all police commissionerates, districts, cyber police stations and cyber cells in Uttar Pradesh with the objective of intensifying action against cyber criminals and strengthening coordinated enforcement across the state. The campaign was announced following a high-level review of cybercrime control measures attended by senior officers from the Cyber Crime Headquarters, commissionerates and district police units.

During the review, officials assessed cyber policing, investigation mechanisms and measures aimed at improving the state’s response to cyber-enabled financial crimes while ensuring faster action on complaints and stronger coordination among enforcement agencies.

₹530 crore frozen and victim assistance strengthened

Police said that between April 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, authorities blocked 2,94,024 suspicious mobile numbers and 1,81,405 mobile devices linked to cyber offences. During the same period, a lien or hold was placed on ₹530 crore involved in cyber financial fraud cases, preventing the money from reaching suspected fraudsters.

The review also focused on the implementation of the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and the Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). The MRM enables victims of cyber financial fraud to seek restoration of funds placed on hold after police verification, while the GRM provides a mechanism for innocent bank account holders to seek relief if their accounts have been frozen during cyber fraud investigations.

Focus on technology, coordination and public awareness

As part of the campaign, police units have been directed to strengthen technology-driven investigations, expand cyber intelligence gathering and improve coordination against organised cybercrime networks. The review also emphasised regular training of cyber police personnel, wider public awareness campaigns on cyber safety and greater use of digital tools to detect and prevent cyber offences.

Officials also stressed the need for prompt registration and disposal of cybercrime complaints and directed field units to accord priority to cases involving women and children. The statewide campaign is intended to strengthen cybercrime enforcement, improve victim assistance and reinforce public confidence in cyber policing across Uttar Pradesh.
