Mandya: A major land records fraud involving the alleged conversion of nearly 200 acres of government land into private holdings has been uncovered in Karnataka’s Mandya district. Lokayukta Police arrested nine accused, including government employees, after raids at the Assistant Director of Land Records office in Srirangapatna.
The case relates to government land in Survey No. 411 of Mahadevapura village, where official records were allegedly manipulated using forged documents. Acting on a complaint, the Upalokayukta directed an investigation, following which four Lokayukta Police teams carried out simultaneous searches at multiple locations.
Private Operator Accessed Official Records
Investigators allege that a private individual from Uttara Kannada district was working inside the Srirangapatna Taluk Land Records Office as a data entry operator without any government appointment.

Police claim he was digitising official land records and accessing the government land records system despite not being an authorised employee. The alleged access is now central to the investigation into how public land records were modified.
Mojini Logins And OTPs Allegedly Shared
According to the Lokayukta investigation, several survey officials allegedly shared their official Mojini software login credentials, passwords and OTPs with the private individual.
This allegedly enabled him to access and alter government land records. Investigators also alleged that government employees collectively paid him ₹15,000 per month for carrying out the unauthorised work inside the office.
Counterfeit Seals And Cash Recovered
During searches at a residence in Mysuru, investigators reportedly recovered nine counterfeit seals bearing the names of tahsildars and survey officials from Hunsur and Sakleshpur.
Documents containing suspected forged signatures and ₹1.40 lakh in cash were also recovered. Police are now examining seized land records, digital entries, forged documents and the role of officials allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
A criminal case has been registered at Srirangapatna Town Police Station on the directions of the Upalokayukta. The investigation is continuing, and further action will depend on the evidence collected.
