The Uttar Pradesh government has intensified action in the alleged misappropriation of cash donations and valuables offered by devotees at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Based on the preliminary findings of a Special Investigation Team, all eight individuals named in the first information report have been arrested. Meanwhile, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and Trust member Anil Mishra have resigned from their respective positions. The state government has asserted that the investigation will be conducted transparently and that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
Chief Minister Assures Strict Legal Consequences
Addressing a public gathering in Deoria, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the government had constituted the Special Investigation Team immediately after the allegations surfaced and that action began as soon as the investigation report was received. He reiterated that the government was committed to separating truth from falsehood and that no guilty person would be spared. The Chief Minister described Ayodhya as a symbol of faith for millions of devotees and an important centre of Sanatan tradition. He said that any attempt to misuse the trust of devotees or interfere with religious sentiments would be dealt with seriously. According to him, any wrongdoing committed in the name of faith would invite strict legal consequences.
Trust Member Filed Misappropriation Complaint
According to government sources, the case was registered following a complaint filed by Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The complaint alleged the misappropriation of cash donations and valuable offerings made by devotees. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the Special Investigation Team submitted its report to the state government, which led to the registration of the first information report and the initiation of legal proceedings. Investigators have arrested all eight accused named in the case. Officials said they are being questioned to uncover the full extent of the alleged irregularities, trace the movement of funds, and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved. Following preliminary interrogation, the accused are expected to be produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
Focus Shifts to Financial Records and Audit
The case has generated widespread political and public attention because it concerns one of the country’s most significant religious sites. The government has maintained that the investigation will proceed without interference and that anyone found involved during the course of the probe will face legal action. The resignations of senior Trust functionaries Champat Rai and Anil Mishra have emerged as another significant development. While no detailed official explanation has been provided for their resignations, the move comes amid the ongoing investigation. It is being viewed as a step that could facilitate an impartial and transparent inquiry. The state government has also reiterated that transparency and accountability in the management of donations made to religious institutions remain a top priority. The investigation will now focus on examining financial records, verifying documents, analysing transaction trails, and questioning the arrested individuals. Investigators are also trying to determine how long the alleged misappropriation continued, who all were involved, and whether additional persons played a role in the alleged conspiracy. The government has stated that any further action will be based solely on the evidence that emerges during the investigation, without fear or favour.
