The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the Branch Manager of the State Bank of India’s Dumaria branch in Godda, Jharkhand, in a bribery case involving allegations of illegal gratification for processing an insurance claim and removing a hold on withdrawal from a bank account.
Bribe Allegedly Sought for Insurance Claim
According to a CBI press release dated June 2, 2026, the accused Branch Manager was arrested on June 1, 2026. The agency said it had registered the case on May 31, 2026, based on allegations that the public servant demanded ₹60,000 as a bribe for processing a claim under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.

The insurance claim, amounting to ₹2,00,000, was related to the complainant’s deceased mother. The complaint alleged that the accused demanded money to process the claim.
Additional Bribe Demand Under Probe
The CBI further alleged that the accused demanded an additional bribe of ₹17,000 to remove a hold on the withdrawal of ₹35,000 after the transfer of the complainant’s mother’s bank account in favour of the complainant.
The agency said it laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹77,000 from the complainant.
Searches Conducted, Probe Continues
Searches were being conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused, according to the press release.
The CBI said the accused Branch Manager would be produced before the competent court in Dhanbad. The investigation is continuing.
