Ahmedabad cybercrime police have arrested a 27 year old Delhi resident for allegedly creating multiple fake social media accounts and uploading more than 100 AI generated obscene images and videos of an Ahmedabad woman after she rejected his attempt to form a friendship online.

The accused, identified as Sumit Sharma, is a resident of northeast Delhi and, according to police, regularly delivered religious and spiritual discourses at events and on social media. Investigators said the case emerged after the woman complained that false accounts carrying her identity and objectionable content had been created across several platforms.

Contact Through Instagram Led to Online Harassment

According to police, Sharma first came into contact with the complainant through Instagram. Officers said he initially engaged her in conversations on religious matters and later tried to develop a friendship with her. When the woman refused, he allegedly began stalking her online.

Police said that after the rejection, Sharma created three fake Instagram accounts and a YouTube channel in the woman’s name. The accounts allegedly used the complainant’s photographs as display pictures and were designed to impersonate her across social media.

The police said the content on these accounts was intended not only to harass the woman but also to damage her reputation by attaching objectionable captions and altered visual material to her identity.

AI Morphed Content Uploaded Across Platforms

Investigators said that between December 2025 and April 2026, Sharma allegedly downloaded photographs of the complainant and her mother from social media and used AI based platforms to create morphed obscene images and videos. Those visuals were then uploaded to fake social media profiles in the complainant’s name.

Police said forensic examination of the accused’s mobile phone revealed the existence of eight to ten fake social media accounts created in the woman’s name across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube. The investigation also found that the accused had allegedly generated more than 100 AI morphed images of the victim using various online tools and websites.

According to the cybercrime police statement, the manipulated content extended beyond the complainant and also included her mother. Officers said the uploaded material formed part of a sustained effort to intimidate and humiliate the woman online.

Arrest Made as Probe Continues

Police said Sharma was apprehended from Delhi during the investigation of the case, which has been registered under Sections 78(2) and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66(C) and 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Investigators said digital evidence was recovered from the accused’s mobile phone and linked him to the fake accounts and the morphed content circulated online. Police further said Sharma projected himself publicly as a preacher by regularly posting religious discourse videos on social media.

The case has again highlighted the increasing use of AI tools in online harassment, particularly in impersonation and morphing cases involving women. Further investigation is under way, police said.
