A police discipline related incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly has come under discussion after a recruit constable posted at the gate during an annual inspection at Aonla police station allegedly did not say “Jai Hind” while saluting SP Dakshini Anshika Verma. Following this, the SP ordered that he be sent to the Reserve Police Line for 15 days. Police officials, however, said this was not a punishment but a step taken for additional training.

Action Over Failure to Say “Jai Hind”

According to the information available, recruit constable Parmveer Singh, who had recently joined duty, was posted at the station gate at the time of the inspection. In the police department, saying “Jai Hind” while saluting officers is regarded as a common and mandatory form of courtesy. It is said that all police personnel, from constables to the DGP, salute one another and say “Jai Hind.”

However, it is alleged that Parmveer neither saluted SP Anshika Verma properly nor said “Jai Hind.” After this, the SP is said to have expressed displeasure and observed that the recruit still lacked proper training. She also reportedly told the station in charge that constables had not been properly taught the correct method of greeting senior officers. He was then ordered to be sent to the Reserve Police Line for 15 days so that he could be given additional training related to drill and discipline.

SP Was in Plain Clothes During Inspection

After the action, the matter became widely discussed on social media. A photograph from the inspection reportedly went viral, showing that SP Anshika Verma was not in uniform and was inspecting the police station in plain clothes. However, she had arrived in an official vehicle and with police staff.

Some police personnel reportedly said that recruit constable Parmveer had only recently completed training and had just been posted. An explanation was also given from the constable’s side that he could not identify the SP because she was in plain clothes and for that reason did not offer the greeting.

Anshika Verma’s Clarification

SP Anshika Verma later clarified that this was not a punishment. She said the constable had made a mistake and had therefore been sent to the police line for better learning and discipline training. There he would be taught the basic rules of policing, drill and the proper method of greeting senior officers.

For the time being, recruit constable Parmveer has been sent to the Reserve Police Line. The entire matter has remained under discussion on social media. It may be noted that IPS officer Anshika Verma had also been in the news a few days earlier in connection with her wedding.
