A major job fraud has been exposed in Dhanbad, where unsuspecting candidates were allegedly cheated of ₹29 lakh in the name of railway recruitment. The accused reportedly issued fake appointment and medical documents to convince victims that they had secured government jobs in the Railways.

Fake Railway Letters Used to Trap Two Brothers

The case has been registered at Saraidhela police station following a complaint filed by Gurudev Prasad, a resident of Kurudmkela, Ghaghra in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh. In his complaint, he alleged that his two sons, Vikas Chauhan and Avinash Chauhan, were targeted by a group of fraudsters who promised them jobs in Group C and Junior Engineer categories in the Indian Railways.

According to the FIR, the accused identified as Manish Kumar, Jitendra Kumar, and Birendra Kumar played key roles in the scam. Jitendra Kumar is reportedly employed as a general worker in a coal mining unit in New Godhar Kusunda Colliery. The complainant stated that the fraud began after his acquaintance with Jitendra during a wedding event in Dhanbad in January 2023.

₹22 Lakh Transferred, ₹7 Lakh Paid in Cash

Over time, the relationship developed, and the accused allegedly introduced him to Manish Kumar and Birendra Kumar at Jitendra’s residence in Bapunagar, New Karmik Nagar. Manish Kumar, who was reportedly a neighbour, allegedly joined the conspiracy to lure the victim’s family into the job offer trap.

The accused promised secure railway employment for both sons and demanded money in multiple instalments. As per the complaint, ₹22 lakh was transferred through five bank transactions into the account of Amrit Kumari, daughter of Manish and Jitendra. Additionally, ₹7 lakh was allegedly paid in cash in three separate instalments to Jitendra Kumar and Birendra Kumar.

To strengthen their deception, the accused allegedly provided forged railway appointment letters and fake medical certificates. These documents were made to appear authentic and were used to assure the family that the selection process was genuine. The victims were even instructed to report for training at Howrah Station based on these fake documents.

Victims Sent to Howrah Station With Forged Papers

However, doubts arose when the family independently verified the documents. It was later discovered that all the appointment letters and medical certificates were counterfeit and had no official validity. This revelation exposed the entire fraud.

When the victims demanded their money back, the accused allegedly delayed repayment and began issuing threats. They reportedly warned the complainant against pursuing the matter further and refused to return the funds.

Following the complaint, police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Officials stated that the case involves elements of organized cheating, where fake recruitment promises were used to extract large sums of money from job aspirants.

Police Probe Wider Fake Recruitment Network

Investigators are now examining bank transactions, communication records, and the forged documents to trace the full network behind the scam. Authorities suspect that more individuals could be involved, and similar frauds may have been committed using the same modus operandi.

Police have assured strict action against all accused persons. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to recover the cheated amount and identify other possible victims linked to the racket.

The case has once again highlighted the growing menace of fake government job rackets, where fraudsters exploit unemployment and aspirations for secure jobs by circulating forged recruitment documents and false promises.
