A young man in Bareilly allegedly lost Rs 5.37 lakh after clicking on an APK file sent along with a traffic challan message on his mobile phone. The case has been reported to the cyber crime police station, and police are investigating the matter.

According to the report, fraudsters are cheating people by sending messages in the name of vehicle challans. In this case, a youth from Bareilly’s Cantt area allegedly clicked on the APK file attached to the message, after which money was withdrawn from his bank account.

Fraud Message Sent in Name of Traffic Challan

The victim, identified in the report as Mohammad Khalid, a resident of Hiriya Nizawat Khan, was told by Inspector Sanjay Dhir that his friend Prempal had received an RTO challan message on his mobile phone. The message also contained an APK file.

When Khalid clicked on the message, the APK file was downloaded. After some time, money began to be deducted from his bank account.

Rs 5.37 Lakh Withdrawn From Account

The amount of Rs 5,37,000 was withdrawn from Khalid’s bank account within a short period. The fraud came to light only after the victim noticed the unauthorised deductions.

The young man then lodged a report at the cyber crime police station. The police are now investigating how the money was withdrawn after the APK file was downloaded.

Police Probe APK-Based Cyber Fraud

It is a method in which cyber fraudsters allegedly send fake challan messages to mobile users and attach APK files to them. Once such a file is clicked or downloaded, it may lead to unauthorised access or financial loss.

Police are examining the complaint and investigating the cyber fraud. The report does not mention any arrest or recovery in the case.
