Accused Allegedly Targeted Senior Official
According to police officials, the accused allegedly made multiple phone calls to the Bhojpur District Magistrate and introduced himself as the ED Director. During the calls, he reportedly tried to pressure the official and influence administrative decisions by falsely claiming high-level authority.
The suspicious nature of the calls raised concerns among administrative staff, prompting a deeper review. A formal complaint was lodged at the Nawada police station on April 28, after which police and STF teams began tracing the caller.
Past Impersonation Case Under Scrutiny
Investigators said the accused had been frequently changing locations and using digital means to avoid detection. Police sources also stated that Abhishek Agarwal is not a first-time offender.
In 2022, he had allegedly impersonated a senior official and deceived then Director General of Police S.K. Singhal. He was later exposed, arrested and subsequently released on bail.
Police Examine Digital Evidence and Possible Links
In the present case, the accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. He is accused of using fake SIM cards, forged identities and digital communication platforms to intimidate officials and interfere with administrative processes.
Investigators have recovered suspicious documents and digital evidence, which are being examined forensically. Authorities suspect that the accused may not have acted alone and are probing possible links to a larger network involved in impersonation-based cyber fraud.
Police are also trying to determine whether he targeted other officials or institutions using similar tactics. Further findings are expected as the investigation progresses.
