The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has constituted a technology and policy panel to guide India’s artificial intelligence (AI) governance framework. The move is aimed at shaping a structured, multi-stakeholder approach to regulating emerging AI technologies while balancing innovation and risk management.
Panel to Guide AI Policy and Governance Strategy
The newly formed panel will function as an advisory body, offering recommendations on regulatory, technological, and ethical aspects of AI deployment. It is expected to assist the government in developing a comprehensive governance structure for artificial intelligence.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader push to institutionalise AI oversight through dedicated bodies such as an AI Governance Group and expert committees under the IndiaAI Mission.

Officials have indicated that the panel will play a key role in ensuring that AI systems are developed and deployed in a responsible, safe, and inclusive manner. The governance approach is expected to prioritise trust, transparency, and accountability in AI systems.
India’s AI governance framework is based on a principle-driven model that emphasises “trust” and a “people-first” approach, ensuring that technological advancement does not compromise societal values.
Coordination Across Ministries and Stakeholders
