New Delhi | Taking a strict stance against corruption in cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has temporarily suspended West Indies all-rounder Javon Searles along with two other individuals for alleged violations of anti-corruption regulations. Searles previously played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League. The action follows accusations related to match-fixing and breaches of anti-corruption rules.
According to information released by the ICC, the case is linked to the 2023–24 Bim10 tournament. Based on the findings of the investigation, two other individuals associated with the team — Chitranjan Rathore and Trevon Griffith — have also been charged with violations of anti-corruption regulations. All three individuals are alleged to have breached multiple provisions of the Cricket West Indies anti-corruption code.

Reports state that the three have been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. They have been given 14 days from 11 March 2026 to respond to the charges filed against them. During this period, they are barred from participating in any official cricket match, tournament, or cricket-related activity.
The charges primarily relate to violations of the Cricket West Indies Anti-Corruption Code. These include attempting to improperly influence the outcome, progress, or other aspects of a match, encouraging players or team staff to engage in corrupt conduct, and failing to cooperate with investigations into suspected corruption.
Under Article 2.1.1 of the Cricket West Indies code, attempting to influence the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a cricket match in an improper manner is considered a serious offense. Being a party to any agreement or attempt aimed at manipulating a match also falls under this category.
Similarly, Article 2.1.4 addresses situations where an individual encourages, instructs, or facilitates players or support staff to commit an offense under the anti-corruption code. Such conduct is regarded as a breach of the integrity standards expected within the sport.
Another allegation relates to Article 2.4.4, which deals with failure to cooperate with anti-corruption officials. Refusing to assist in an investigation, withholding relevant information, or failing to respond to inquiries by designated anti-corruption authorities is considered a violation under this provision.
Investigators have indicated that several of these charges apply to both Searles and Rathore. Meanwhile, the third accused individual, Trevon Griffith, faces multiple allegations under the Cricket West Indies anti-corruption code, along with one charge linked to an international match that falls under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
Cricket analysts note that the development comes at a time when preparations are underway for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the most popular and commercially successful T20 leagues in the world. The allegations have once again raised concerns about the integrity and transparency of professional cricket.
Under the ICC’s anti-corruption framework, if the allegations are proven during the disciplinary process, the individuals involved could face long-term bans from the sport. In serious cases, the penalties may even include a lifetime ban from cricket.
Sports governance experts say that over the past decade, international cricket authorities have strengthened monitoring systems to detect corruption and suspicious approaches to players. Modern anti-corruption units use intelligence gathering, digital monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to track potential integrity breaches.
Players and team officials are also required to immediately report any suspicious contact or offers related to match-fixing or betting activities. Failure to do so itself constitutes a violation of anti-corruption regulations.
Sources within cricket administration say swift action in such cases is essential to maintain the credibility of the sport and ensure that investigations proceed without interference. Temporary suspensions are often imposed at the initial stage so that the disciplinary process can continue in a fair and transparent manner.
The next stage of the case will depend on the responses submitted by the accused and the outcome of further disciplinary hearings. Based on the findings of the investigation, authorities will decide the final sanctions and whether the individuals involved will be allowed to return to professional cricket in the future.
