Ahmedabad | The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has achieved a major breakthrough in its operation against the dark web network being used to spread bomb threat messages targeting schools and government institutions. A suspect involved in circulating fake bomb blast threats to create panic across multiple cities has been arrested after being traced from West Bengal through technical surveillance and digital forensic investigation.
According to police investigations, the accused was allegedly using internet platforms and dark web channels to send threatening emails through fake and anonymous accounts. Preliminary findings suggest that the motive behind the activity was to spread fear and mislead security agencies. Cyber teams tracked the suspect’s digital movements by analysing email logs, IP traces, and server activity patterns.

Officials stated that the accused had been operating for a long time by targeting school administrations and government establishments with hoax threat messages. Investigation agencies reported that the suspect attempted to hide identity by using proxy networks and anonymous online accounts. However, despite advanced anti-forensic techniques, completely erasing digital activity footprints remains extremely difficult, which helped investigators succeed in this operation.
Cybersecurity experts believe that criminals involved in such activities often rely on social fear and misinformation strategies. Commenting on the case, renowned cyber crime expert and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh said,
“In the digital age, cyber criminals try to spread fake threats using social engineering tactics and anonymous networks, but modern digital forensic systems and network tracing technologies do not allow their activities to remain hidden. Thinking of the dark web as completely safe is a misconception.”
Police have urged citizens not to ignore any suspicious emails, threat messages, or unknown digital communications and to report them immediately. Officials said that timely information helps investigative agencies respond quickly and prevents potential security risks.
Cybercrime specialists emphasized that public cooperation plays a vital role in such cases. People have been advised to avoid clicking on unknown links, downloading suspicious attachments, or sharing information from anonymous sources. Responsible digital citizenship is essential for preventing cybercrime.
Authorities noted that while technology is advancing rapidly, cybercrime methods are also becoming more sophisticated. However, digital security systems are evolving at the same pace. Techniques such as forensic data analysis, network monitoring, and inter-state information coordination are proving crucial in dealing with such threats.
Officials further clarified that no matter how advanced anti-tracking technology criminals use, completely erasing digital footprints is nearly impossible. Continuous cyber operations are expected to help curb such activities in the future. Police stated that such actions strengthen public confidence in digital security and weaken cybercrime networks.
Following the incident, security agencies are also probing other possible dark web-linked networks. Authorities believe that joint cyber intelligence and stronger digital forensic operations will be further enhanced in the future to ensure strict control over elements attempting to spread online panic.
