Panic gripped two major urban centres—Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Ahmedabad in Gujarat—on Friday after several private schools received bomb threat emails, prompting authorities to place the cities on high alert. Security agencies swung into action immediately, evacuating affected school premises and suspending classes as a precautionary measure.
In Noida, threat emails were received on the official email IDs of multiple schools during the morning hours, claiming that explosive devices had been planted on campus. Following the alerts, local police, bomb disposal and detection squads (BDDS), dog squads, fire services and forensic teams rushed to the locations. Entry and exit points of the school premises were sealed, and movement in surrounding areas was strictly regulated.

Intensive searches conducted for several hours
Senior police officials said thorough search operations were conducted for several hours across schools located in different sectors, including Sector 62. Classrooms, laboratories, libraries, storage rooms, parking areas and open grounds were systematically scanned.
By late evening, no explosives or suspicious materials had been found at any of the locations. However, authorities said heightened vigilance would continue until all aspects of the threat were fully verified. Police maintained that standard safety protocols were followed in line with established operating procedures.
Cyber teams trace origin of threat emails
Cyber crime units were activated to investigate the technical origin of the threat emails. Officials said efforts are underway to trace IP addresses, server locations and sender identities to determine whether the messages indicate a real security threat or were intended to spread panic.
Investigators are examining the possibility of spoofed email accounts, use of VPNs or foreign servers to mask the sender’s location. Officials stressed that identifying the source of the emails is critical to assess intent and prevent recurrence.
Public urged not to panic or spread rumours
The administration appealed to parents, students and the general public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours. Officials said the situation was under control and that there was no confirmation of any immediate danger.
Authorities cautioned against relying on unverified information circulating on social media platforms and urged citizens to trust only official updates issued by law enforcement agencies and district administrations.
Similar threats reported in Ahmedabad
On the same day, several schools in the western parts of Ahmedabad also received bomb threat emails, triggering a similar security response. Teams from the city crime branch, bomb squads and forensic departments were deployed to inspect school campuses.
According to Ahmedabad police, searches were conducted following the same safety protocols, and no explosives or hazardous materials were detected. Officials said precautionary checks would continue and additional security arrangements had been put in place around educational institutions.
Pattern of hoax threats under scrutiny
Police sources noted that similar threats targeting schools, airports and public institutions have been reported in different parts of the country in recent months. In many of those cases, the threats later turned out to be hoaxes.
Despite this trend, authorities said every such threat is treated as genuine until proven otherwise, as even a single lapse could have serious consequences. All responses follow standard operating procedures designed to minimise risk and ensure public safety.
Security stepped up around schools
Following the incidents, additional police personnel were deployed around schools in both Noida and Ahmedabad. School administrations were instructed to report any suspicious emails, phone calls or activities without delay.
Officials also advised schools to maintain close coordination with parents and ensure safe dispersal of students. Security reviews of school premises are expected to continue in the coming days.
Situation under control, investigation ongoing
Police and district authorities said the situation remains under control in both cities. Further action will be guided by findings from the cyber investigation.
Officials reiterated that public safety remains the top priority and warned that those responsible for issuing threats would face strict legal action once identified. Law enforcement agencies said they are committed to ensuring that educational institutions remain safe and secure.
