Deloitte India has announced the launch of ‘Tax Pragya,’ an artificial intelligence-powered tax research and insights platform, which aims to dramatically reduce the time and effort required for tax-related research and advisory work.
The platform, scheduled to be launched on December 9, integrates over one million judicial rulings, direct and indirect tax cases, and Deloitte’s proprietary knowledge papers. It is designed to provide quick, data-backed responses to complex tax queries, helping professionals deliver faster and more precise client advisory services.
Sumit Singhania, Partner at Deloitte India, said that the initiative is part of the firm’s broader effort to embed AI across its knowledge infrastructure.
“‘Tax Pragya’ combines two decades of Deloitte’s tax expertise with artificial intelligence to create a platform that doesn’t just deliver information it provides actionable insights,” he said.
From Hours to Minutes: Tax Research Redefined
Traditionally, tax analysts spend several hours examining court judgments and precedents before advising clients. With ‘Tax Pragya,’ this process will take just a few minutes.
Unlike tools that rely on open-source data, ‘Tax Pragya’ draws from Deloitte’s secure, private database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. The platform’s agentic AI design enables it to interpret case laws, identify relevant precedents, and suggest possible outcomes or advisory directions based on historical data.
“This is not a static knowledge repository,” Singhania explained. “It’s a dynamic learning platform that refines its outputs as tax laws evolve and case data expands.”
Real-Time Budget and Policy Updates
One of the key features of ‘Tax Pragya’ is its real-time tracking of budget announcements and legislative amendments. The platform will instantly reflect changes to income tax laws, even before they take effect on April 1 of the financial year.
It will operate as a B2B subscription-based solution, catering primarily to corporate tax teams, financial consultants, and accounting professionals. Deloitte clarified that the tool is not meant to replace human tax consultants, but to augment their analytical capabilities and improve decision-making efficiency.
Next Phase: Predictive and Generative Capabilities
In the coming 12 to 18 months, Deloitte plans to enhance ‘Tax Pragya’ with predictive analytics and generative features, enabling it to draft preliminary tax opinions and assess the likelihood of litigation outcomes.
The platform will be able to analyse tax notices, predict the probability of success in appeals, and offer strategic recommendations. These capabilities, currently under development, will make ‘Tax Pragya’ a first-of-its-kind cognitive legal-tax system in India.
Three-Phase Rollout Strategy
The rollout of ‘Tax Pragya’ will take place in three stages. The first phase will begin on December 9, giving access to 500 Deloitte clients. The second phase, starting in January 2026, will expand access to 5,000 clients across sectors.
By June 2026, Deloitte aims to make the platform available to MSMEs and SMEs through nationwide subscriptions. The company expects this expansion to democratize access to tax intelligence and reduce the compliance burden for smaller enterprises.
Transforming India’s Tax Technology Landscape
‘Tax Pragya’ marks Deloitte’s latest move in its strategy to blend human expertise with AI to transform professional services. The company has already introduced digital tools for tax automation, e-filing, and compliance analytics, but this is the first time an AI-driven research platform will cater exclusively to tax professionals.
“Our goal is to empower tax experts to make faster, evidence-based decisions,” Singhania said. “With Tax Pragya, we’re taking a decisive step toward the future of intelligent tax consulting in India.”
Industry experts see the move as part of a larger digital shift in India’s tax advisory ecosystem, where data analytics, automation, and AI will play a growing role in shaping both compliance and litigation strategies.
