The Telangana government has inaugurated a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) established by Sonatype, a leading U.S.-based cybersecurity and software supply chain intelligence firm.

The facility, located in Hyderabad’s HiTech City, will serve as Sonatype’s largest and fastest-growing R&D hub worldwide, focused on advancing AI/ML-driven software security, cloud-native development, and open-source intelligence.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Special Chief Secretary for IT and Industries Sanjay Kumar, alongside IT advisor Sai Krishna, in the presence of Sonatype’s senior leadership.

Boosting India’s Software Supply Chain Security

Sonatype’s new GCC marks a major expansion in the firm’s global operations and highlights the strategic importance of India’s tech ecosystem in the evolving cybersecurity landscape.

“India is leading a global technology transformation—not only as a hub for engineering excellence but as a model for how nations can embrace AI responsibly and securely,” said Bhagwat Swaroop, CEO of Sonatype.

Abhishek Chauhan, Chief Product Development Officer, added that the centre currently employs around 50 professionals and plans to expand to over 200 deep-tech engineers, product leaders, and data scientists by next year.

The Hyderabad team will focus on research in software supply chain risk mitigation, AI-powered vulnerability detection, and secure open-source frameworks—core challenges that have defined modern digital infrastructure.

Hyderabad’s rapid transformation into a Global Capability Centre hub continues to attract multinational enterprises across cybersecurity, fintech, and AI sectors.

“By next year, Hyderabad will reach its first milestone of 500 GCCs, creating thousands of high-value technology jobs,” said Sanjay Kumar during the launch. “This reinforces the city’s position as a global hub for innovation and deep-tech talent.”

According to Telangana’s IT and Industries Department, the state’s pro-innovation policy ecosystem, combined with a highly skilled workforce, has positioned Hyderabad as one of Asia’s most sought-after destinations for corporate R&D investment.

A Convergence of AI, Security, and Innovation

Sonatype’s arrival in Hyderabad signals not just expansion, but alignment with India’s broader vision for secure AI adoption and open-source innovation.

By integrating AI and machine learning into software supply chain management, the company aims to pre-empt vulnerabilities in real time—an increasingly urgent priority amid rising global cyber threats.

For Telangana, the collaboration adds to its growing list of global tech partnerships, reinforcing its ambition to become the “Cybersecurity Capital of South Asia.”
