New Delhi, September 29, 2025 – The Delhi Police have arrested two members of a cyber fraud gang accused of impersonating Indigo Airlines recruiters and duping job seekers through fake advertisements, WhatsApp communication, and fabricated documents. The arrests came after a victim reported losing more than ₹24,000 in the name of employment with the airline.

Fraudulent Job Offer Lures Victim

The case surfaced when Rohit Yadav, a job seeker, stumbled upon a Facebook advertisement offering employment at Indigo Airlines. Believing it to be authentic, he contacted the number mentioned and was connected to a man who introduced himself as “Rohit Sharma,” posing as a company representative.

The fraudster convinced Yadav that to secure the job, he needed to pay several fees, which would later be reimbursed with his first salary. The victim was first asked to pay ₹350 as a form fee via UPI on July 30. The next day, he transferred ₹3,250 for uniform charges.

To reinforce credibility, the accused sent him a fake gate pass and a bond agreement through WhatsApp, both carrying Indigo’s official logo. Soon after, additional payments of ₹15,500 for an employment agreement and ₹5,000 for file charges were demanded. Once Yadav complied, the fraudsters cut off communication, blocked his number, and switched off their phones.

Police Trace Money Trail to Faridabad

Realizing he had been cheated, Yadav filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), which led to a police investigation. Authorities traced the transferred funds to a State Bank of India account in the name of Azad Khan, a resident of Faridabad.

Further investigation revealed that the mobile number used in the transactions was registered under Ajay, also from Faridabad. Acting swiftly, police conducted raids and arrested Khan near his residence in Sector-55, Gochi, and later apprehended Ajay from Jeevan Nagar Part-II.

Fraudsters Confess to Running Fake Recruitment Scheme

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to running the fake recruitment racket by luring job seekers with promises of positions at Indigo Airlines. They admitted to being close friends who devised the scheme to make quick money.

Police recovered a mobile phone, SIM card, and multiple forged documents from Ajay’s possession. These included counterfeit appointment letters, employment bonds, and WhatsApp communications addressed to the complainant, all carrying Indigo’s name and logo to mislead victims.

Further Probe Into Wider Network

Authorities have booked the duo under charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. The seized devices and documents will undergo forensic examination for further evidence. Police are also investigating whether the two men were part of a larger organized cyber fraud network targeting job seekers across states.

Officials cautioned the public against such scams, stressing the importance of verifying job offers directly with companies before making any payments. “Cyber fraudsters are increasingly exploiting social media and digital payments to prey on desperate job seekers. Awareness and vigilance are the best defenses,” said a senior officer.
