CHAIBASA, JHARKHAND: A coordinated joint operation by police and paramilitary units demolished five underground Maoist bunkers and recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Chotanagra forest area of West Singhbhum district. The raid, triggered by precise intelligence, aimed to thwart planned Maoist disruption in the region.

Forest Hideouts Neutralised, IEDs Defused on Site

Responding to actionable intelligence, a security contingent led by SP Rakesh Ranjan located and destroyed five well-constructed bunkers used by Maoist cadres. Inside, bomb disposal teams unearthed two active IEDs, along with detonators and arrow bombs. These explosives were carefully defused on-site, neutralising immediate threats to anti-insurgency efforts.

SP Ranjan noted that the bunkers were being used to store explosives for planned ambushes against security forces. The discovery of detonators and arrow bombs confirmed the site’s role as an operational base within the Maoist network.

Strategic Push Against Maoist Logistics

This raid forms part of broader combing operations in Chaibasa and adjacent zones aimed at dismantling Maoist infrastructure. Authorities believe the bunkers support as many as 40–50 cadres at a time, and that their demolition marks a significant blow to insurgent logistical capabilities.

Security forces are continuing exhaustive searches in forested corridors to prevent regrouping. The operation follows a trend: in April, similar sweeps destroyed 11 large Saranda-area bunkers and defused multiple IEDs—all underscoring a strategy focused on crippling the rebels’ hideouts and weapon caches.
