The FBI breach is the latest in a long line of high-profile government hacking events in the United States over the last decade. Officials found a broad cyber espionage operation throughout several federal networks by hackers linked to Russian intelligence in late 2020.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) reported in 2015 that it, too, had been hacked and that government employee records had been stolen. Chinese hackers were later blamed for the OPM breach.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
