New Delhi: While we continue worrying about women’s security in our society, child pornography is growing as an industry in our country. Recently, in Kerala, a gang was busted for its alleged involvement in distribution of child pornography, now Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime Unit, CyPAD under operation ‘MASOOM’ has arrested five persons for allegedly distributing child pornography on social media platforms.

The Delhi Police arrested as many as 26 people in 2020, for posting child pornographic content on social media and other platforms.

The circulation of such offensive contents was received from different online platforms including Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, etc., which operates as the web for such content by using artificial intelligence tools.

After getting information through international coordination mechanisms, the CyPAD unit took immediate action of this instance and several teams were formed to identify and arrest the persons as reported against.

Multiple cases have been registered on these reports and investigation has been started to trace the accused persons. During interrogation, it has been revealed that the offensive content was received by the accused on various social media platforms.

The accused told police that the content/offensive material was shared with them on WhatsApp, then that was posted on the social media profile of someone known to them, from where they either forwarded the same to someone else or copied and posted on their own social media accounts.

All the accused persons have been slapped with appropriate sections of law and sent to judicial custody. Some devices and SIM cards have been seized from their possession. Further investigation in the matter is on.
