Festive Season Turns Bitter For Sweet Shop; Ransomware Attack On Mithaas Sweets, Data For Last 5 Years Stolen

After Haldirams another chain of sweet shop and restaurant Mithaas has become the victim of a ransomware attack. The company has approached Noida police to investigate the cyberattack carried on their server and system.

According to the FIR registered by Mithaas Sweets And Restaurant Pvt. Ltd their server were attacked with the ransomware on August 22 between 3-4 pm. After the attack, their data has been encrypted in a particular format id-E4EB5065F.backdata@gmail.biz.

“Due to hacking and ransomware attack, our complete data has become useless and. The hacker has uploaded a ransomware screen on the computer asking us to contact them at recowerdata@protonmail.com for further information of recovery,” said the complainant in the FIR. The hackers have allegedly stolen crucial data, which has caused immense loss to the company.

Ransomware is malicious software that infects your computer and displays messages demanding a fee to be paid in order for your system to work again.

According to the information, data related to retail sales and inventory, human resources and payroll data and other crucial documents were taken away.

The office of Mithaas is in Sector 63 of Noida. The company has 12 outlets in Delhi and NCR. On this server, they had stored five years of data of the company. The amount demanded by the company is not known. The incident came to lights days after popular food chain Halidirams was targeted by hackers in July where they demanded a huge sum of money to decrypt their data.

Noida police are investigating both the cases but have not made any breakthrough.
