The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has taken a major decision, cancelling the recognition of JS University, Shikohabad, after serious allegations of irregularities, fake degrees and consistent violations of norms.

According to the government, the first priority behind the move is to protect the future of students. Nearly 15,000 students are currently enrolled at the university. Academic operations will now be transferred to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra.

Allegations: Fake and Back-Dated Degrees Used for Recruitment

Investigations revealed that the university allegedly admitted students to the B.P.Ed. course in violation of regulations and later issued back-dated mark sheets and degrees.

These degrees were reportedly used in the Rajasthan Physical Education Teacher Recruitment Examination, 2022.

Following the revelations:

  • Rajasthan Police conducted an investigation
  • Major irregularities surfaced
  • The Chancellor and Registrar of the university were arrested

The Cabinet noted that the university misused its authority to confer degrees and distributed fake credentials in an organized manner.

Land Norms and Academic Records Also in Question

Rules mandate that a private university must possess at least 40 acres of land. However, the probe found only 35.637 acres available.

Further, the university reportedly failed to submit:

  • Complete admission records
  • Examination results
  • Details of issued degrees

to the Uttar Pradesh State Higher Education Council, compromising transparency and oversight.

What Happens Next: Records to Agra University, Full Review Ordered

Under the Cabinet’s order:

  • All academic and administrative records
  • Degrees and mark sheets
  • Admission and examination data

will be handed over to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra.

Agra University will:

  • Verify previously issued degrees
  • Identify genuine and fraudulent records

A three-member interim committee has also been formed to supervise operations during the liquidation period.

Despite the Cabinet decision, JS University has not issued an official statement.
Sources indicate the management has been informed and may explore legal remedies.

“Do Not Panic — Students Will Be Protected”

News of derecognition triggered anxiety among students and parents, who reached out for clarification.

The government has assured:

  • No student will lose their academic year
  • Courses and degrees will continue under supervision
  • A recognized public university will now manage all operations

According to the Higher Education Department, all previously issued degrees will be reviewed and declared valid or invalid, ensuring genuine students are not harmed while fraud is exposed.

Strong Message to Private Universities

Officials say the decision sends a clear signal:

  • Fake degrees will not be tolerated
  • Regulatory standards cannot be ignored
  • Playing with students’ futures will invite strict action

All academic activities will now function under the monitoring of Agra University.
