The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized 9.139 kg of crystalline methamphetamine worth ₹7.32 crore from a passenger travelling on an inter-state luxury bus from Delhi to Bhopal, in the second major synthetic-drug seizure from a bus in Madhya Pradesh in less than a month.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted the passenger when the bus arrived at Bhopal’s Inter-State Bus Terminal on Tuesday.

A search of two mid-sized trolley bags carried by the passenger led to the recovery of 11 plastic packets containing crystalline methamphetamine.

Drugs Hidden Inside Salwar-Suit Packets

According to the DRI, the packets containing the narcotic substance had been concealed inside packets of salwar suits.

Tests conducted using an NDPS Field Test Kit confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in all 11 packets.

The seized drug weighed 9.139 kg and was valued at ₹7.32 crore in the international illicit market.

The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Second Major Bus Seizure in Less Than a Month

The Bhopal operation was the second major synthetic-drug seizure by DRI officers from an inter-state luxury bus in Madhya Pradesh in less than a month.

On September 21, DRI officers intercepted a Nigerian woman near Teen Imli Chauraha in Indore while she was allegedly travelling by bus to Pune.

A search of her navy-blue duffle bag led to the recovery of 1.120 kg of amphetamine in crystalline or powder form, 296 grams of amphetamine or MDMA tablets and 10 grams of hydroponic cannabis.

The seized drugs were valued at around ₹1.19 crore in the illicit market.

DRI Steps Up Action Against Synthetic Drug Movement

The latest seizure has highlighted the use of inter-state bus routes for transporting synthetic narcotics across cities.

In the Bhopal case, the methamphetamine was allegedly concealed in ordinary clothing packets and carried in trolley bags to avoid detection.

The accused passenger has been arrested under the NDPS Act, while the seizure adds to recent DRI action against the movement of synthetic drugs through inter-state transport networks.
