Burglars Entered Through a Hole in the Wall
According to police, the jewellery shop shared a wall with the watchman’s room in the parking area of the complex.
Investigators suspect that the burglars entered the watchman’s room around 3 am and used hammers and other equipment to create an opening about 1.5 feet wide in the shared wall.
After entering the shop through the hole, the burglars allegedly tried to break open the cash box using a gas cutter but failed.
Police said they then fled with 211 grams of gold ornaments, 94 kg of silver ornaments displayed in the shop and some cash. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at ₹2,55,74,455.
The theft was discovered when a staff member opened the jewellery shop around 10 am on July 13.
Delhi Goldsmith Arrested, Silver Recovered
Police first arrested the three Jharkhand natives, who had earlier worked as labourers in Pune and Mumbai.
Following a technical investigation, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Balaji Digole arrested Kasim Mohsin Shaikh from Delhi on October 6.
Police recovered 13.792 kg of silver, valued at ₹31 lakh, from him.
Investigators said Kasim Shaikh, a resident of Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, is a relative of one of the wanted accused. He allegedly sold stolen gold and silver ornaments to other people in Delhi.
Police said efforts are continuing to recover the remaining stolen property and arrest those still wanted in the case.
Watchman Suspected of Passing Information
Police recovered a hammer, gas cutter, gas cylinder and other tools from the jewellery shop, which investigators believe were left behind by the burglars.
After examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas and following other leads, police identified people suspected of carrying out or assisting in the burglary.
Investigators have also launched a search for the watchman of the 73 Avenue Complex, who is suspected to be a key accused.
Police believe he may have provided the burglars with information about the valuables kept inside the jewellery shop. He was reported missing after the theft.
Further investigation is underway to arrest the remaining accused and recover the stolen jewellery and cash.
