The cyber crime helpline 1930, spearheaded by Inspector Sudhir Kumar, has emerged as a game-changer in the fight against digital fraud. The unit has recovered an astounding Rs 28.12 crore from cybercriminals, providing immediate relief to fraud victims. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the rapid response system implemented by the department.

Nationwide Crackdown on Cyber Criminals

The unit’s reach extended far beyond state boundaries, with operations spanning 14 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The task force:

Conducted 102 strategic raids
Arrested 66 criminals, including a foreign national from Nigeria
Initiated legal proceedings against 56 accused under Section 41-A CrPC and Section 35(3) of the BNSS.
Processed one voluntary court appearance

Protecting Religious Tourism

In a significant move to safeguard pilgrims, the cyber unit launched a targeted campaign against fraudulent Chardham Yatra helicopter booking services. The operation resulted in:

Shutdown of 82 fraudulent websites
Closure of 45 deceptive Facebook accounts
Prevention of countless potential scams targeting religious tourists

Community Engagement and Education

The department has taken proactive steps to prevent cyber crimes through extensive public outreach:

Conducted 75 awareness and training programs

Provided specialized training to police officers, judicial officials, and public prosecutors
Partnered with NGOs, banks, and various government institutions

Future Outlook

SSP Singh emphasizes that these achievements have significantly boosted public confidence in the cyber police unit. “Our success in 2024 represents just the beginning,” Singh states. “We remain vigilant and committed to preventing Uttarakhand from becoming a cyber crimehotspot.”

The department continues to evolve its strategies, combining technical expertise with community engagement to stay ahead of cyber criminals. With its proven track record and enhanced capabilities, Uttarakhand’s cyber police force stands ready to face the digital security challenges of tomorrow.

The comprehensive approach – from immediate response through the 1930 helpline to long-term preventive measures through public awareness – has created a robust framework for cyber security in the state, serving as a model for other regions to emulate.
