WASHINGTON: American singer and actress Selena Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, are facing legal trouble over a business dispute involving Wondermind Global, a mental health company they helped establish. Two companies that invested in the venture have filed a lawsuit against Wondermind Global, Gomez, Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson, alleging that they were provided misleading information before investing more than ₹8.6 crore in the company.
The lawsuit has been filed by Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC. The investors allege that Wondermind Global was presented as a company with the infrastructure, leadership and resources required to build a profitable mental health platform. According to the lawsuit, however, the company was already facing serious internal difficulties when the investments were made.
The investors claim they relied partly on Gomez’s public promotion of Wondermind, including television appearances and interviews. They allege that Gomez presented herself as actively involved in the company, creating confidence among potential investors. After the investment was made, however, the companies claim that her involvement was significantly less than they had been led to expect.
The lawsuit also names former business partner Daniella Pierson. The investors allege that Pierson made misleading representations about her previous business achievements and the potential returns investors could expect from Wondermind. They claim that these representations contributed to their decision to commit more than ₹8.6 crore to the venture.
According to the investors, they were not warned about the company’s deteriorating financial and operational condition. They allege that important information about Wondermind’s problems was withheld while their money continued to be used to support the company’s operations.
September 2025 Report Became a Key Turning Point
The investors have also referred to a report published by The Cut in September 2025. They claim that the report was when they first became aware of the extent of the problems within Wondermind. The report described the company as being in serious disarray and raised questions about its management, finances and internal operations.
The lawsuit alleges that Wondermind faced difficulties meeting basic business obligations, including paying employees and vendors on time. The investors claim that the company’s founders, officers and directors did not adequately inform them about these problems despite their investments being used to fund the business.
The lawsuit reportedly states that investors were kept unaware of the company’s deteriorating condition for an extended period. The plaintiffs argue that they would not have invested such a substantial amount had they known the true state of the business.
Mandy Teefey Denied Allegations
The September 2025 report also contained personal allegations involving Mandy Teefey, including claims about alleged substance abuse and her management of the company. Teefey denied those allegations and rejected claims that Wondermind was in disarray.
She reportedly accused some former employees of spreading false information about her and said she was disappointed that the media had amplified what she described as misleading claims.
The investors allege that when they confronted Teefey about the issues raised in the report, she placed responsibility on Pierson, who had already left the company. The investors have presented this episode as another indication that they were not given a complete explanation of Wondermind’s problems.
Investors Seek Return of Money and Additional Damages
The two companies have accused the defendants of securities fraud and are seeking the return of their investments along with additional damages. The exact amount of damages being sought has not been specified.
The allegations remain claims made in a lawsuit and have not been established as facts in court. Gomez, Teefey and Pierson will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the legal process.
The case has nevertheless raised significant questions about Wondermind Global’s management, financial condition, investor communications and the responsibilities of its founders and executives. The outcome will depend on the evidence presented before the court and the subsequent legal proceedings.
