Police have intensified their investigation into an alleged honeytrap and blackmail case in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh after a complaint was filed against a social media influencer. The complainant has alleged that the woman first befriended him, entered into a romantic relationship and later used objectionable photos and videos to extort money from him.
Friendship Allegedly Began During Nainital Trip
According to the complaint, the young man met the woman about three years ago during a trip to Nainital. Since both were from the same city, they began speaking to each other and gradually became close.

The complainant has alleged that the trust between them was later misused to capture his private photos and record videos. Police are examining the allegations and verifying the material placed before them.
Threats Made Over Private Photos And Videos
According to the FIR, the complainant claimed that the woman later threatened to publish his private photos and videos on social media and implicate him in a false criminal case. He alleged that he paid around ₹55,000 out of fear, but the blackmailing did not stop.
The complainant has further alleged that the woman was not acting alone and was working with two other persons to trap people in romantic relationships and blackmail them using personal material. This claim has not been officially confirmed, and police are investigating all aspects of the case.
Police Examine Digital Evidence
Police have registered a case under relevant sections on the basis of the complaint and have begun gathering evidence. Officials said mobile phones, chats, digital records and other electronic material will be examined as part of the investigation.
Police said further legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed and evidence is assessed. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations made by the complainant are being independently verified.
