Police in Rajasthan’s Deeg district have arrested two men accused of cheating a resident of Kucaman City of around ₹13 lakh by luring him with offers to buy old antique coins and currency notes for crores of rupees. The suspects allegedly used Facebook advertisements, fake SIM cards and bank accounts to carry out the fraud, police said.
The case came to light after Badaram, a resident of Aaspura in Kucaman City, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Helpline 1930 on August 12, 2026. He alleged that unknown persons had posted advertisements on Facebook offering to purchase old antique coins and currency notes for large sums. After drawing him into the scheme, they allegedly cheated him of nearly ₹13 lakh.

Fake Facebook ads used to approach victims
Police said the accused circulated fraudulent advertisements and links on Facebook claiming to buy old coins and currency notes. People who clicked on the links were allegedly contacted through WhatsApp using fake SIM cards.
After establishing contact, the accused allegedly gained the victims’ confidence by promising substantial payments in exchange for old notes and coins. They then demanded money under different pretexts, including registration, rent and expenses for an inspection team.
The money collected from victims was allegedly deposited into fake bank accounts and later withdrawn through ATMs or other means.
Police tracked suspects for four days
Following the complaint, a case was registered under the IT Act at the cyber police station in Deedwana and an investigation was launched. Police used technical evidence to trace the suspects, who allegedly kept changing their locations in forest and hilly areas to conceal their identities.
The cyber police team pursued them for four days through forest and hilly terrain in the Alwar-Bharatpur region. The two suspects were eventually apprehended near Maujpur in Alwar. Police also recovered a mobile phone allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
Two suspects arrested, further probe underway
The arrested suspects were identified as Junaid Khan, 24, a resident of Sapera Bas, Jona Kheda, under Laxmangarh police station in Alwar district, and Mohammad Kaif, 19, a resident of Kaithwada Kheda Bas under Kaithwada police station in Deeg district.
Police said the suspects allegedly used fake advertisements for purchasing antique coins and old currency notes to attract potential victims. Once a person trusted the offer, money was sought on various pretexts and transferred into fraudulent bank accounts.
Police are questioning both accused and carrying out further investigation into the case.
