Patna: A case involving the alleged extortion of ₹2.03 crore from a doctor after a woman befriended him has come to light in Rajiv Nagar. According to the complaint, a woman who runs a coaching institute in the Mithanpura area of Muzaffarpur first developed a friendship with the doctor and later allegedly continued taking money from him on various pretexts. When the doctor refused to provide more money, she allegedly threatened to implicate him in a false rape case and have members of his family killed. Based on a complaint filed by the doctor’s wife, Rajiv Nagar police have registered an FIR against the woman, her husband and two other people. Police are investigating the allegations and the financial transactions involved.

Friendship Developed Through WhatsApp Conversations

According to the complaint submitted by the doctor’s wife, the woman became acquainted with the doctor, after which the two began communicating through WhatsApp. In 2024, the woman allegedly sought ₹20,000 from the doctor, claiming that she needed the money for her mother’s medical treatment. The doctor provided the amount. Subsequently, according to the complaint, she allegedly obtained around ₹5 lakh more from him by citing different needs and circumstances.

The complaint further states that the woman later said she wanted to open a coaching institute in Mithanpura. She allegedly asked the doctor for ₹10 lakh to start the business and assured him that the money would be returned soon. Trusting her assurances, the doctor reportedly gave her the amount.

Threats Allegedly Began When Money Was Sought Back

According to the allegations, the situation changed when the doctor began asking for his money back and refused to provide any additional funds. The woman allegedly started threatening him and pressured him to pay another ₹10 lakh.

The complaint alleges that she threatened to implicate the doctor in a false rape case if he failed to pay. She also allegedly threatened to have members of his family killed. Following the alleged threats and continued pressure, the doctor’s wife approached the police and reported the matter.

Police Examining ₹2.03 Crore in Transactions

The complaint alleges that a total of ₹2.03 crore was taken from the doctor. Police are now examining when the money was transferred, through which channels and into which bank accounts. Bank statements, online transaction records, WhatsApp conversations and other digital evidence are expected to be examined as part of the investigation.

Investigators will also determine the purposes for which the money was allegedly demanded and how the funds were subsequently used. If the banking records and other documents establish extensive financial transactions, the scope of the investigation could widen further.

FIR Registered Against Four People

On the basis of the doctor’s wife’s complaint, police have registered a case against the woman, her husband and two other people. Investigators are examining the role of each named accused, their communication with the doctor and their alleged involvement in obtaining the money.

Police are also collecting documentary and electronic evidence to verify the allegations. The alleged threats to falsely implicate the doctor in a criminal case and harm his family have been included among the key aspects being examined.

Police officials said the allegations made in the complaint are being investigated and further action will depend on the evidence that emerges during the inquiry.

The investigation is currently focused on establishing how the alleged ₹2.03 crore was transferred and what role each of the four named accused played in the transactions. The allegations will be subject to verification through the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings.
