OLX fraud: Conmen pose as Army officers to steal your money
Another gang from Rajasthan duping people by posing as army officer selling goods on OLX was busted by the cybercrime wing of the Cyberabad police.
During questioning, the gang told cops about their involvement in 40 cases, including 15 in Cyberabad, 18 in Hyderabad, six in Rachakonda and one in Nizamabad said Cyberabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar.
According to the police, the mastermind of the gang who is identified as Rukmin, is a college dropout and was earlier working for another gang on a commission basis. He later formed his own gang with other accused Murfeed, Saikul Khan, Sharukh and Rakham Khan.
Police said the gang used to post sale ads on Olx and sometimes pose as a buyer too. In both instances, he would collect money from the victims and dupe them. They used to do this by sending victim’s QR scan codes and asking them to do an online transfer, even though he was buying a product. He used to con them by saying that the money would be refunded along with the product.
The gang was busted during a two-week long operation in Bharatpur of Rajasthan. From duping people in the name of selling gold bricks and coins, the local conmen have now changed their modus operandi to offering things for sale on platforms such as OLX.
