The National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) to strengthen cybersecurity and digital forensics capabilities across Urban Cooperative Banks.
The MoU was exchanged during the ‘Sahkar Nav-Kranti’ programme in Mumbai. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said banks and their customers cannot remain fully secure in the era of online banking without the support of forensic science.
Cybersecurity and Forensics Support for UCBs
Under the partnership, NFSU will provide cybersecurity and digital forensics support to smaller Urban Cooperative Banks. The arrangement is intended to make professional cybersecurity and forensic services available to such banks at a lower cost.
The collaboration will also integrate cybersecurity, digital forensics, employee training and research facilities through NUCFDC’s ‘Bank in a Box’ platform.
NFSU Expertise to Be Extended to Smaller Banks
Shah said NFSU has developed expertise in cybersecurity and digital forensics and already provides professional services to several banks. The new partnership is expected to extend similar facilities to smaller UCBs that may not have the resources to build such capabilities independently.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening institutional preparedness against digital threats while improving access to forensic and technical support for cooperative banks.
Security Operations Centre to Provide Round-the-Clock Monitoring
The programme also highlighted a newly launched Security Operations Centre that will provide Urban Cooperative Banks with round-the-clock cyber monitoring, immediate guidance and security support.
Shah urged UCBs to become members of the initiative in order to improve protection against digital threats and strengthen their overall cybersecurity framework.
