Noida Police Arrests Key Player in ₹16,000 Crore GST Scam

Noida: In a major update, the Noida Police (Sector 20) have arrested a person with a ₹25,000 reward on his head in connection with the massive ₹16,000 crore GST scam. This morning, acting on a tip-off, the police detained Anshul Goyal, who had been evading arrest for his involvement in the scam. The arrest brings the total number of arrests in the case to 45.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shakti Mohan Awasthi confirmed the arrest and revealed that the police have also filed charge sheets against two other accused, Vikas Dabas and Kunal Mehta, in court yesterday. To date, charge sheets have been filed against 38 individuals involved in the scam. The police are actively pursuing other suspects linked to the case.

The scam, which came to light in June 2023, involved fraudulently obtaining PAN and Aadhaar cards of various individuals across India to set up approximately 4,000 fake companies. These companies then illicitly claimed Input Tax Credit (ITC) amounting to over ₹16,000 crore. Initial arrests in the case included Deepak, Vinita, Akash Saini, Vishal, Mohammad Yaseen, Rajeev, Atul Segar, and Ashwini.
