Gautam Budh Nagar Commissionerate Police have recommended invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against two accused in connection with a labour violence case that occurred in the district’s industrial areas. The recommendation, based on the police investigation, has been forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh government for consideration.

Police have identified the accused as Satyam Verma and Agniveer. According to the report, the proposal will now be examined by a committee of constitutional experts constituted at the state level. Further action under the UAPA can proceed only after the committee’s review and, if required, approval from the Central Government.

Police Cite Serious Allegations in Chargesheet

According to the chargesheet prepared by the Commissionerate Police, Satyam Verma and Agniveer have been described as active members of the organisation “Mazdoor Ekta Zindabad.” Police have accused them of inciting workers, provoking unrest, encouraging violent protests and disturbing public order.

The report states that the charges include offences such as inciting violence, provoking crowds and disrupting public life. It also notes that the allegations remain subject to judicial scrutiny and will be determined through the legal process.

Violence Linked to Industrial Area Protests

The case relates to violence reported on April 10 in several industrial areas of Gautam Budh Nagar. According to the report, workers staged demonstrations over various demands, during which incidents of road blockades, arson, stone-pelting, attacks on factories and damage to vehicles were reported.

Following the unrest, the police and district administration launched a detailed investigation into the incidents.

UAPA Proposal Awaits Committee Review

The report explains that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is a law primarily used in cases involving internal security, terrorism and activities considered unlawful. Compared with ordinary criminal cases, the process for invoking the Act involves additional scrutiny and approvals.

According to the report, the state-level committee will first examine the recommendation. If it concludes that sufficient grounds exist and the required approval is received from the Central Government, the Gautam Budh Nagar Commissionerate Police may initiate proceedings against the accused under the relevant provisions of the UAPA. The report adds that the outcome of the case could have wider legal implications for industrial unrest and labour-related movements.
