In order to dominate the artificial intelligence frontier, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is assembling an elite Superintelligence Lab by offering record compensation packages to top AI talent across the globe. According to reports, Meta has extended offers ranging from ₹800 crore to over ₹1,600 crore to lure leading minds from Apple, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic.

The lab aims to consolidate Meta’s scattered AI projects into a unified platform focused on achieving “superintelligence”—a concept surpassing artificial general intelligence (AGI) by aiming to outperform human cognition in memory, reasoning, and adaptability.

One of the most notable hires is Apple’s Ruoming Pang, who reportedly joined Meta for a staggering $200 million (over ₹1,600 crore), setting a new benchmark in tech salaries. OpenAI’s Trapit Bansal was offered $100 million (approximately ₹800 crore). These eye-watering figures include base salary, signing bonuses, and substantial equity grants structured with long-term vesting schedules to ensure sustained commitment.

According to Bloomberg, these offers are part of a broader compensation arms race, with Meta setting salary records that outstrip the pay packages of many global banking CEOs. With long-term performance-based incentives, the company is locking in talent amidst an increasingly competitive recruitment environment.

Zuckerberg has declared AI the company’s “top priority,” committing billions to the cause. The Superintelligence Lab is expected to rival the best in the field, including Google DeepMind and OpenAI. By integrating various AI teams under one centralised leadership, Meta hopes to streamline its innovation and speed up breakthroughs in machine cognition.
