A timely alert from social media platform Meta helped the Uttar Pradesh Police save the life of a young man in Deoria district, who had written a suicide note on Instagram after receiving a loan recovery notice from a bank. The police acted swiftly based on Meta’s alert and reached the youth’s house within 12 minutes, preventing a tragedy. The incident has sparked widespread praise for both technology-enabled policing and the alertness of the local law enforcement.

The incident occurred on Thursday, when Rajan, a young resident of Pachohan village under Bhaluani police station in Deoria, posted a chilling message on his Instagram account:

“Brothers, please forgive me, I am going to die.”

The alarming post immediately triggered Meta’s suicide and self-harm detection system, which sent a real-time alert to the social media monitoring cell of the DGP Office, Uttar Pradesh Police. Acting on the alert, the DGP office instructed the Deoria district police to locate and rescue the individual without delay.

Upon receiving the location data from Meta, Sub Inspector Ram Ashish Tiwari of Bhaluani Police Station quickly mobilized a team and rushed to the spot. The team reached Rajan’s home in Pachohan village within 12 minutes, where they found him preparing to take his own life by hanging.

Thanks to the swift intervention, the police managed to stop the suicide attempt in time. Rajan was brought safely to the police station, where officers provided counseling and emotional support.

Loan Recovery Threat Drove Youth to Depression, Parents Live in Delhi

According to Rajan, he had taken a Kisan Credit Card loan of ₹47,000 in 2015. Due to financial constraints, he could not repay the loan on time. Recently, the bank issued a recovery notice, which included threats of legal action and imprisonment.

Rajan, who lives in Delhi with his parents but had returned to his native village, said he was deeply shaken by the tone of the notice. “The bank scared me so much I couldn’t think clearly,” he told the police during counseling.

Police confirmed that the young man was under significant emotional stress and assured him that legal remedies and help would be provided to address his situation. Mental health professionals have been engaged to support his recovery.
