In a major crackdown on the smuggling of controlled drugs along the India-Nepal border, a joint team of Shyamdeurwa Police, the SWAT team and the Special Operations Group arrested three alleged smugglers and recovered 4,350 ampoules of drug injections. The action was carried out after the team intercepted a pickup vehicle near Basahiya Mor on the Pipraich-Paratawal road. The seized consignment included 2,000 ampoules of Diazepam and 2,350 ampoules of Buprenorphine. Two mobile phones and the pickup vehicle were also seized.
According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain, a resident of Lohrauli under Thuthibari police station, Govind Prasad of Jamui Kala and Sachin. A case has been registered against the three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and they have been produced before a court. Investigators are now working to determine the source of the injections and identify other members of the alleged trafficking network.
Pickup Intercepted Near Basahiya Mor
Police had received information about the movement of controlled drugs in the border region. Following the input, Shyamdeurwa Police, the SWAT team and the Special Operations Group intensified surveillance along the Pipraich-Paratawal road.
The joint team stopped a suspicious pickup near Basahiya Mor and conducted a search. A large quantity of drug injections was allegedly found inside the vehicle. The three occupants were detained and subsequently arrested after the recovery was verified.
Investigators are examining the seized medicines, the vehicle and other evidence to establish the alleged role of each accused in the transportation of the consignment.
Orders Allegedly Received Through WhatsApp Calls
During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had been involved in the smuggling of controlled medicines in the border region as part of an organised network. According to police, orders were allegedly received through WhatsApp calls from a suspected kingpin based in Bihar.
The accused allegedly received instructions regarding the movement of the consignments and were responsible for transporting the medicines to designated locations. Investigators are now examining the mobile phones seized from the accused to establish their communication links with other suspected members of the network.
Police are also examining bank accounts and transaction details allegedly used for payments. The digital trail could help investigators identify suppliers, intermediaries and other individuals connected to the operation.
Two Accused Listed as History-Sheeters
According to police, Zakir Hussain and Govind Prasad are history-sheeters of Thuthibari police station. Both allegedly have previous cases registered against them, including cases under the NDPS Act, the Gangsters Act and robbery-related offences.
Investigators are examining whether their previous criminal activities have any connection with the current alleged drug trafficking operation. Police are also checking whether the accused had previously transported similar consignments to other locations.
Bihar Connection Under Investigation
The alleged Bihar connection has expanded the scope of the investigation. Police are working to identify the suspected kingpin, verify his communication with the arrested accused and examine financial transactions linked to the alleged network.
Investigators are also trying to determine where the seized injections were procured and where they were supposed to be delivered after being transported through the border region.
The investigation will also focus on the alleged roles of suppliers, intermediaries, buyers and other associates. Police are examining digital evidence, mobile communications, vehicle movements and financial records to establish the complete chain behind the alleged trafficking operation.
Officials said further action would be taken on the basis of evidence gathered during the investigation.
