New Delhi. Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas have issued a nationwide warning to consumers amid rising cyber fraud involving LPG delivery authentication codes and OTP misuse. The companies have cautioned that fraudsters are posing as delivery agents and customer care executives to obtain sensitive codes from consumers and carry out financial fraud.

Fake Calls Target LPG Consumers

According to the companies, several complaints have surfaced in which scammers contacted consumers claiming that their gas cylinder delivery would be cancelled unless they shared the OTP or Delivery Authentication Code immediately.

Officials said no authorised LPG distributor or delivery personnel asks for OTP or DAC through phone calls or messages. The code is meant to be shared only when the delivery agent is physically present at the customer’s doorstep during cylinder handover.

Official Apps Advised for Booking Updates

The companies have advised consumers to rely only on official mobile applications such as IndianOil One, HP Pay and the Bharat Gas app for booking and delivery updates. Consumers have also been urged not to share personal details, banking information, OTPs or authentication codes through unknown calls, messages or suspicious links.

Cybersecurity experts said the scam relies on social engineering, where fraudsters create urgency and pressure users into acting without verification. Fake SMS and WhatsApp messages resembling official alerts are also being used to make the fraud appear credible.

Authorities Urge Quick Reporting

Government agencies and cybersecurity units are investigating the fake calls and messages linked to such frauds. Consumers have been advised to immediately report suspicious incidents through the National Cyber Crime Helpline and official reporting portals.

Authorities reiterated that legitimate gas service providers do not seek banking credentials, OTPs or delivery authentication codes through phone calls or messaging apps. Consumers have been urged to verify delivery personnel, use official platforms and report fraud quickly so that suspicious transactions can be acted upon without delay.
