London: The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has issued its first Interpol Silver Notice to track and recover the criminal proceeds of Anopkumar Maudhoo, an Indian-origin fraudster convicted in a multi-million-pound conveyancing scam.

Maudhoo, 45, from London, allegedly amassed £8.5 million through fraudulent property deals and has been linked to at least 76 offences, including fraud, money laundering, and possession of forged identity documents. The Interpol Silver Notice — a newly introduced tool — is aimed at locating and identifying assets linked to serious crimes such as fraud, drug trafficking, and corruption.

According to the NCA, Maudhoo misled investors by offering opportunities in properties falsely claimed to be repossessed or undergoing redevelopment. In reality, these properties were not part of any legal repossession process, and genuine owners were unaware of the transactions. “This Silver Notice reflects our resolve in collaborating across borders to seize illicit gains and ensure victims receive justice,” said UK Security Minister Dan Jarvis. “Fraud is a deeply harmful crime, and we remain committed to cracking down on it wherever it occurs.

Maudhoo, known to operate under multiple aliases including Vincent Lebeouf, Pascal Burns, Yusef Khan, and Vicenzo Conte, was investigated by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). Authorities have already seized 19 luxury vehicles and a speedboat linked to him, while domestic probes under the Proceeds of Crime Act are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Burns of ERSOU highlighted Maudhoo’s strong international connections, particularly across Europe, emphasizing the role of the Silver Notice in helping agencies worldwide coordinate efforts to trace hidden assets. Rachael Herbert, Deputy Director of the National Economic Crime Centre, said the Silver Notice significantly enhances the UK’s capacity to pursue and recover illicit wealth. “By disrupting criminal operations and targeting unlawful profits, we are also expanding the pool of resources available for victim compensation,” she added. The City of London Police also hailed the development. “This marks a historic step in our fight against fraud. We’re sending a strong message — the UK is no safe haven for financial criminals,” said Deputy Commissioner Nik Adams.

The Silver Notice initiative, currently in a pilot phase involving 52 countries, enables Interpol member nations to share alerts and asset-related intelligence in real time. The UK’s first use of the mechanism underscores its broader mission to dismantle financial crime networks and enhance global cooperation in asset recovery.
