Network Disruption Raises Suspicion
According to the complaint, the victim, identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Mahuagao village, holds a savings account at Bank of Baroda located in Sarsoal. He stated that on April 25, he started experiencing mobile network issues, due to which his phone stopped functioning properly.
He further mentioned that the network disruption continued for several days, during which he became unable to access his mobile services. Initially, he assumed it was a technical issue, but later began to suspect something unusual when the problem persisted.
On May 1, the victim visited his bank branch to check the status of his account. During the inquiry, he was shocked to discover that ₹2 lakh had already been withdrawn from his account without his knowledge or authorization.
Cyber Fraud Case Registered
Following the discovery, the advocate immediately reported the matter to the police and lodged a complaint at Maharajpur police station. Officials confirmed that a case under cyber fraud has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
Preliminary information suggests that cybercriminals may have exploited the temporary disruption in mobile network services to gain unauthorized access to the victim’s banking credentials. However, police have stated that all possible angles are being examined, including phishing, SIM swap fraud, and unauthorized digital transactions.
Authorities believe that cyber fraudsters are increasingly using technical vulnerabilities and social engineering methods to target unsuspecting victims, especially during periods of network or service disruption when users are unable to immediately monitor their accounts.
Transaction Trail Under Investigation
Police officials said that the case is being investigated by the cybercrime unit, which will analyze transaction details, mobile activity logs, and banking records to trace the source of the fraud. Efforts are also being made to identify the destination accounts where the stolen money was transferred.
Investigators are coordinating with banking authorities to freeze related accounts and track the digital trail of the transaction. Officials have also assured that attempts will be made to recover the defrauded amount if possible.
Cybersecurity experts note that such incidents highlight the increasing sophistication of online banking frauds, where attackers often take advantage of temporary technical issues to carry out unauthorized transactions without immediate detection.
