HYDERABAD: The Benami Prohibition Unit of the Income Tax Department has provisionally attached two houses, four parcels of agricultural land, and a luxury vehicle in connection with proceedings against suspended Telangana Deputy Superintendent of Police Sankireddy Bheem Reddy and his wife. Investigators allege that these assets were acquired under benami arrangements in exchange for official favours extended during the officer’s tenure. While the recorded value of the assets stands at Rs 59.4 lakh in official transaction deeds and valuation filings, tax authorities estimate their current market worth runs into several crores of rupees. The provisional attachment orders, issued in Hyderabad on November 3, bar the sale, transfer, or transaction of these properties without departmental clearance, pending formal legal adjudication.

Houses Allegedly Handed Over as Token of Gratitude

According to the investigation records, real estate firm GPR Housing Private Limited transferred two houses situated in Brundavan Gardens at Muttangi to an individual named Pothuganti Indra Karan Reddy in July 2023 without taking any payment. Each property measures 200 square yards, carrying a registered value of Rs 14.2 lakh. Tax sleuths allege that the residential units were meant for Bheem Reddy as consideration for official interventions made or withheld while he served as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Patancheru. These acts reportedly included declining to register certain complaints and facilitating settlements in disputes involving the real estate firm. Investigators cited statements from the company’s director, G Kalyan Babu, who allegedly characterised the properties as a token of gratitude, while Indra Karan stated that he lent his name to the registration on the instructions of the police officer. The proceedings have drawn upon electricity records, written communications, and a handwritten property list to substantiate the transactions.

Farmland Registered in Home Guard’s Name

The department also placed provisional attachments on four agricultural land parcels measuring 3.20 acres in Mogudampally, which hold a recorded transaction value of approximately Rs 8.9 lakh. The land was registered under the name of Laxman Nayak, a Home Guard. Investigators have identified Bheem Reddy’s wife, Sankireddy Bhagya Laxmi, as the primary beneficial owner of the agricultural holding, while naming the suspended officer as an alternative beneficial owner. Case documents point to a memorandum of understanding executed in August 2023, which explicitly mentioned that Bhagya Laxmi financed the land purchase and that Nayak possessed no actual ownership claim over the property. Financial trails, bank transaction sheets, WhatsApp exchanges, and documents shared with the police officer were examined by the agency to establish the underlying money flow and true beneficial control.

Vehicle Provided Following Settlement of Road Disputes

A third attachment order was issued against a Toyota Innova Crysta, valued at Rs 22 lakh, which was allegedly provided to the police officer by Aluri Suresh, proprietor of Apple Enterprises. Investigators maintain that the luxury vehicle was given as a reciprocal favour after Bheem Reddy assisted in resolving accident-related disputes involving commercial vehicles belonging to the businessman. Evidence gathered by the tax agency suggests the suspended officer had exclusive possession of the vehicle from late 2024 and personally covered its routine running expenses. The latest attachment follows an earlier operation on July 2 by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau, which raided 16 premises connected to Bheem Reddy and claimed to have found disproportionate assets with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 150 crore, culminating in his arrest on July 6. Tax authorities clarified that the current attachment orders remain provisional and do not constitute a conclusive judicial finding of criminal guilt or final ownership.
